Hong Branch Taiji First Routine is based on soft energy. Hardness and softness are rooted in each other. Soft supplements hard. Though there are many repetitions in this routine, the angles, position and size of moves are different so the applications vary. The movements are small and tight. The opening and closing are appropriately executed. The application of each move is the standard for accuracy.

This form requires focus of mind, uprightness of the body, sinking of the qi, distinction of yin and yang, light and rounded and hardness complementing softness.
